Manolo Fortich marked its third annual Tourism Week celebration with vibrant displays of homegrown talents, local dishes, and cultural pride. Held at the Tourist Rest Area, Tankulan, this year’s Daes ta Manolo Fortich highlighted a Street Food Edition in celebration of World Tourism Day on September 27, 2025.
The festivities kicked off with the Street Food Competition, where six contenders showcased their unique twists on local favorites: Batchoy with Pineapple, Nachos Salad, Dynamite Overload, Pinya Fusion, Beef Shawarma, and Pinya Turon.
The champion dish, Pinya Turon, was created by John Claude Tacmo, owner of Hungry Bull in Barangay Maluko, “We tried for something sweet para maiba pud sa uban and we all know nga daghan ta og pineapple plantation diri (Manolo Fortich) so we used the pineapple nga ma-highlight, ma-utilize siya, then at the same time ma elevate ang simple turon para ma enjoy pud sa uban,” Tacmo shared during the interview.
The celebration also featured the awarding of other competitions held during Tourism Week, including:
- Travel Vlog Contest
- Online Photography Contest
- Daes Ta Manolo Fortich
- Tatak Manolo Fortich
- Outstanding Tourism Champ
- Most Compliant Tourism Establishment
These contests spotlighted new local dishes, products, tourist sites, and best practices in tourism across the barangays. Complementing the program were engaging activities at the Tourist Rest Area such as a Mock Tour, Art Exhibit, Soil Painting Workshop, and Loom Beads Workshop.
During the awarding ceremony, Committee Chairperson on Tourism Coun. Rina E. Quiño emphasized the importance of cultural pride and community participation, “I encourage everyone to continue supporting our local initiatives, to explore our rich cultural heritage, and to share the beauty of Manolo Fortich with the world. Let this celebration serve as a reminder that tourism is not just about attractions; it is about people, tradition, and community.”
The celebration aligned with the World Tourism Day theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” reflecting the 7th priority agenda of Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño—Sustainable Tourism. Beyond being a tourism destination, Manolo Fortich envisions tourism as a driver for sustainable environmental, social, and economic change.
