The elderly of Manolo Fortich proved that to age is to live gracefully and with purpose as they gathered at the Elderly Month Culmination last October 28, 2025, at the Municipal Gymnasium, Tankulan, Manolo Fortich, showcasing a display of their talents and an educational campaign for their health and wellbeing.
Embracing age with dignity and purpose
This year’s theme is, “Embracing Age: Living a life with dignity and purpose,” which sheds light on remembering every life’s dignity and purpose while embracing age gracefully. Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño, who is also a senior citizen himself, proudly instills an example that despite his age, he is genuinely motivated to craft ways and projects that can uplift the lives of those who are in need in Manolo Fortich — a testament of implementing his 10 Point Agenda.
“Brothers and sisters, gitagaan gyud ni nato og higayon na atong maselebrar ang Elderly Month. Sa panahon sa katigulangan, dili ta mawad’an og paglaum na mopadayon og pangita og pamaagi na makatabang ta sa atong kabus na mga igsuon,” says Mayor Quiño during his inspiring remarks. He also adds, “Na mapa-asenso nato sila ug ang ilang upbringing kay maayo na mahitabo gyud ilang mga plano sa kinabuhi.”
A showcase of talents and educational campaign
In celebration, various barangays presented colorful and brilliant folk dances and chorales. Among the presenters are the following:
An educational campaign was also conducted in order to help remind and educate the participants of the importance of keeping themselves healthy through the right consumption of food and rest. The following topics were discussed:
Nona Machabecha Encabu, 66 years old from Barangay Maluko, is among the presenters who showcased their talent through folk dance. She extends her gratitude to the activity’s initiative, “Dako gyud kaayo ko’g pasalamat nga naa tay programa sa elderly kay kung walay program ang elderly dili mi matigom tanan ang mga senior citizens nga magmalampuson ug gipakita gyud namo sa ila ang maabtik gyud na pasiugda.”
A call for consistent participation
The said celebration is only among the major programs of the local government unit for its senior citizens. Moreover, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) Officer Phoebe Cau imparted an encouragement for participants to continually engage, “Magpadayon ta sa atong participation ug pag engage sa tanan para sa kalamboan sa atong mga senior citizens.”
