Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon— A momentous breakthrough for the local corn industry in the municipality is set in motion as Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. and the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich under the leadership of Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the construction of the Corn Grain Processing Center—also known as the Corn Central of Manolo Fortich. The signing took place on November 26, 2025, at Bukidnon Resources Company Inc. (BRCI) in Barangay Dicklum.
An Investment to Transform the Corn Industry in Manolo Fortich
With an estimated project cost of ₱2.5 billion, the Corn Central will feature large-scale grain silos, modern and technologically-advanced storage and processing structures specialized for corn, inside the designated five-hectare area within BRCI.
Once operational, the Corn Central will function as:
- A consolidation point for corn products not only in Manolo Fortich but also for neighboring municipalities and cities.
- A post-harvest processing facility to ensure grain quality, reduce losses, and expand revenue
- A trading hub that helps farmers - especially local- secure better market access with fairer prices
Mayor Quiño highlighted the significance of the facility saying, “This initiative will help our farmers gain better prices, better markets, and better opportunities. To Secretary Laurel, daghang salamat sa lig-on nga suporta, and for bringing national attention to the needs of our farmers.”
A Part of a Larger Vision for Food Security in Northern Mindanao
The establishment of the Corn Central forms a major component of the DA’s Food Hub Development Project, which allocates ₱1.97 billion for a one-stop agricultural hub in Bukidnon. The MOA signing, also joined by Bukidnon Provincial Governor Rogelio Neil P. Roque and Misamis Oriental Governor Juliette Uy, who also signed for the establishment of the Food Hub in the municipality of Claveria, signals a strengthened commitment to improving the agricultural network across Northern Mindanao.
“Today we gather to formalize a significant partnership in strengthening Northern Mindanao’s agricultural landscape… This initiative aims to reinforce our agri-food systems, or what I call the agri-food network, enhance market linkages, and uplift the livelihoods of our farmers and fisherfolk across the region,” says DA Secretary Tiu Laurel.
A Milestone Witnessed by the Agricultural Community
Also present during the signing were Bukidnon Vice Governor Clive D. Quiño, DA Undersecretary for Operations and Agri-Fisheries Mechanization Engr. Roger V. Navarro, along with officials from the DA Regional Field Office 10 led by Regional Executive Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan.
Witnessing the ceremonial signing were farmers, cooperative members, agricultural associations, Rescued Friends, the Agriculture and Fishery Councils of Bukidnon, and the Manolo Fortich Municipal Agriculture Office headed by Municipal Agriculturist Gemma G. Cania.
The signing of the agreement planted the seed of agricultural development in Manolo Fortich, where the municipality positions itself as one of the major force in the country’s corn production chain. Not only will this improve the municipality’s local economy, but it can also empower local farmers and sustain the agricultural landscape that Manolo Fortich boasts.
