Philippine Eagle Foundation visits Manolo Fortich

A collaboration for a better home for the Philippine Eagle.

The Philippine Eagle Foundation visited selected elementary schools in the Municipality of Manolo Fortich to conduct an Information Education Campaign (IEC) on  April 18-19, 2023. The IEC aims to spread awareness and information to the children regarding the ecological preservation that helps the propagation of the Philippine Eagle.

According to PEF Community Education and Public Awareness Officer Irick Francisco, the IEC is one of the foundation's primary goals. "We presented the Philippine Eagle, its Biology and Ecology and why we should protect them, the threats the Philippine Eagles face in the wild… This activity, Community Education and Public Awareness, is one of the backbone initiatives of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, presenting the Philippine Eagle to a wider mass, wider audience, and seeking support from them for its continued protection and conservation." He added that the PEF recognizes Banog-banog as the only festival dedicated to preserving the Philippine Eagle.

During the visit, a Community Education Public Awareness Campaign was also conducted with the Miss Philippines Earth Candidates at Bagalangit Elementary School, Film Showing to the elementary pupils sa Kalugmanan Elementary School, Kibulawan Elementary School, and Guilang-guilang Integrated School with the mascot Malaya. The staff of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) also facilitated the said visit.

In line with this, Guilang-guilang Integrated School Officer In-charge Rey Dalura Quirong is very thankful to PEF’s visit. “Dako kaayo among pasalamat nga nibisita sa amo ang MENRO ug ang Philippine Eagle Foundation kay ang Guilang-guilang, naa mi Eagle dire pero wala mi kabalo unsa ang mga basic mga idea sa Philippine Eagle. Dako kayo among kalipay nga nakit-an namo nga importante kayo ang Philippine Eagle sa bisan asa nga dapit.” This activity is held in celebration of this year’s Earth Month.

It is known that Manolo Fortich houses a family of three Philippine eagles in the mountains of Barangay Guilan-guilang, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. The municipality is proud of this achievement because it signifies that the place still has healthy and habitable forests for wildlife.
