Sports for All: Volleyball Game Updates

The first ever Sports for All inter barangay league witnessed an evening of upsets and wins as the championship for the Volleyball game happened on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the Municipal Gymnasium, Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich, with the Damilag Women’s Team and Alae Men’s team claiming the gold title for both the men and women category.

The Damilag Women’s Team executed a reverse sweep against the women’s team of Barangay Alae after losing in the first set, and then regaining stance on the second, third, and fourth set with scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-24.

Princess L. Galang, 21 years old, showcased her skills in contributing to the victorious feat of Damilag Women’s Team as the Team Captain. Amassing majority of the team’s scores, her full blown serve for the last mirrored point of 24-24 in the fourth set led to Alae Women’s loss as the rally on their side had mismatched.

Despite her leg cramp in the third set, Galang emerged as Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game, “Sugod sa pinakauna, dili gyud mi magkahiusa sa training. Every game ra gyud mi mag kita-kita kay lagyo gyud kaayo ang balay sa uban. Naay trabaho, naay klase, and mo byahe lang para training. Wala ko nag expect gyud pero gusto gyud kaayo namo. Sauna ra gyud mi nag manifest ani nga kadaogan ug nakuha ra gyud namo,” says Galang in an interview as she emphasizes the efforts done by the entire team towards the title.

Meanwhile, the Alae Men’s Team, or team name known as Alae Phoenix played opposite Damilag's Men Team during the championship of the men’s category. Coming out as the champion of the two-hour-long match, Alae Phoenix maintained dominance after securing the winning point in the first set and gaining a massive 5-gap point in the last set with scores, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20.

Team Captain of Alae Phoenix, Jeawel Ray Edquilang, 23 years old, displayed his prowess on their courtside by leaving the opponent in a dismaying feat despite the Mata brothers’ incredible show of defense and attack from the Damilag’s Men Team. Edquilang also garnered the MVP award of the game.

“Amo gihatag ang tanan best namo sa two months nga training and preparation. Daghan mi gi apilan na liga, daghan mi mga pildi, amo gi cover up ang among mga pildi ug ang among mga nakuha nga lessons. And then karon among mga sacrifices, worth it kaayo,” says Edquilang.

In a remark recognizing the initiative and efforts of the LGU of Manolo Fortich in partnership with Manolo Fortich Sports Development in hosting Sports for All, Galang shows her appreciation of the inter barangay league, “Mag pasalamat gyud ko kay tungod aning Sports for All, nagkahiusa gyud mi tanan players and athletes sa tibuok Manolo Fortich.”
