TUESDAY ‒ The Municipal Nutrition Office (MNO) of the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich remains dedicated to honing the knowledge and skills of the barangays on the proper conduct of nutrition programs. This was exemplified through the Nutrition Program Management Training (NPMT) held at Villa Imelda Farm Resort, Barangay Tankulan, on June 25, 2024.
Since the local barangay elections last October 2023, new sets of barangay officials have been elected. Consequently, there is a prevailing need for training and other necessary programs to equip them for the benefit of various initiatives they can implement in their barangays, with nutrition and health being among the most crucial.
“Kini nga training, ang tumong niini ang maghatag kanato og kahanas and expertise aron mapalambo ang atong mga programa sa nutrition and makahatag gyud ta og dako nga impact para sa public health sa atong mga tagsa-tagsa ka mga barangay,” said Sangguniang Bayan Member and Committee Chairperson on Health and Nutrition, Coun. Joy L. Cordovez, during her message.
The MNO prepared eight sessions that discussed a variety of topics pertaining to the proper conduct of nutrition programs, with eight different keynote speakers. These topics included the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN), Manolo Fortich Nutrition Situation, Barangay Nutrition Committee Roles and Functions, Adoption of Nutrition Laws and Policies and BNS Code, Integrating Nutrition PPAs in the Youth Development Plan, Overview of Nutrition in Emergencies, and Orientation on the MELLPI Pro (Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation Protocol).
An estimated 60 participants attended the one-day training, including Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), Kagawad Champs on Health, a few Barangay Chairmen, and Barangay Representatives. Each received a certificate of participation, which guaranteed their completion of the training.
As health and nutrition are major points in his 10 Point Agenda, Municipal Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño urged the participants during his message to give utmost importance and attention to nutrition programs, noting that adequate knowledge on the matter offers the greatest advantage. “We really have to continue our programs and kinahanglan jud ni sila hatagan og supporta sa atong mga barangay captains and elected officials. We have to support every program sa atong nutrition if we want nga ang atong mga children sa Manolo Fortich, na katong angay jud atimanon, kay dili mapasagdan.”
