September 1, 2023 - The 22 Local Government Units of Bukidnon came together to celebrate the 109th founding anniversary of the Province with the theme, "Harmony in Diversity: Celebrating 109 Years of Unity in Bukidnon," at the Capitol Grounds in Malaybalay City. Municipalities including Baungon, Cabanglasan, Damulog, Dangcagan, Don Carlos, Impasugong, Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Kibawe, Kitaotao, Lantapan, Libona, Malitbog, Manolo Fortich, Maramag, Pangantucan, Quezon, San Fernando, Sumilao, Talakag, and the cities of Malaybalay and Valencia all joined in commemorating the rich culture and history of Bukidnon on this special occasion.
The significance of this celebration was underscored when Malacañang declared the first day of September 2023 as a Special Non-working Holiday through Proclamation No. 301, signed on July 25, 2023, by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, by authority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. This special non-working holiday was a testament to the historical importance and achievements of Bukidnon Province, offering its residents a chance to unite and celebrate their diversity and unity.
The festivities kicked off with a colorful parade, starting from Claro M. Recto St. and culminating at the Capitol Grounds. Representatives from all 20 municipalities and 2 cities of Bukidnon led the procession, accompanied by their respective Municipal Mayors and Vice Mayors. Various agencies from the province, including the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Bukidnon State University (BSU), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and other government and non-government organizations, also participated enthusiastically.
In a show of unity, several representatives from the Local Government in Manolo Fortich attended the celebration, led by Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño and Vice Mayor Reynaldo L. Bagayas Jr., accompanied by Sangguniang Bayan members Coun. Rina E. Quiño, Coun. Raquel A. Bayacag, Coun. Eddie Dagunlay, Coun. Junidini J. Artajo, and IPMR Datu Alex Payangga. Municipal Administrator Engr. Joie Caesar M. Gaid was also present.
The program began with interfaith and intertribal prayers, symbolizing the harmony in diversity that defines Bukidnon. These prayers showcased the inclusive and respectful spirit deeply embedded in Bukidnon's culture. Following this, the Flag Raising Ceremony took place in front of the Provincial Capitol, accompanied by the firing of a cannon, signifying the raising of Bukidnon's flag by Governor Rogelio "Oniel" Roque and Vice Governor Clive D. Quiño. Subsequently, the flags of the 22 Local Government Units were raised in synchronized fashion, symbolizing the unity and collective progress of Bukidnon. Municipal Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño and Vice Mayor Reynaldo L. Bagayas Jr. proudly raised the LGU Manolo Fortich flag, representing their municipality.
The culmination of the celebration featured a speech by Governor Roque, expressing his pride in Bukidnon's achievements and progress, from its humble beginnings to the present day. He acknowledged the foresight and hard work of the province's forefathers in laying the foundation for its development. Governor Roque stated, "Atong pasalamatan ang unang gobernador nato si Manolo Fortich up to Governor Jose Maria Zubiri tungod sa ilang leadership. As we look back on our history we are reminded of the remarkable journey that has shaped our identity and brought us together as a united community."
The celebration of Bukidnon's founding day serves as a powerful testament to the unity, progress, and cultural diversity of the province. It stands as a tribute to the leaders who have paved the way for Bukidnon's development and a recognition of the harmonious coexistence of various religious and tribal groups within the province.
