MDRRM ICS Training

In a concerted effort to enhance their capabilities in managing and responding to emergencies, members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Council in Manolo Fortich recently participated in the Basic Incident Command System (ICS) Training Course Level I. Held from November 8 to 10, 2023, at the Pearlmont Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

The three-day training provided MDRRM Council members with a comprehensive understanding of ICS principles and their practical application in emergency response scenarios. Seasoned experts from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) – Region 10 guided participants through the intricate aspects of ICS, providing valuable insights and sharing their expertise in various areas of incident management.

OCD10's Civil Defense Officer III, Patrick Alain S. Callanta, delved into the organizational structure of ICS, emphasizing the importance of clear command structures and effective delegation of authority in ensuring a coordinated response. Emmanuel A. Almonia, Communication Equipment Operator II at OCD10, underscored the critical role of communication in incident management. He highlighted the need for clear and consistent communication channels to facilitate information sharing and ensure coordinated actions among different response teams.

Moreover, Rimcu Irish Francis A. Gonzaga, Operations Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the 8th Air Reserve Center, drew upon his operational experience to provide practical insights into the application of ICS principles in real-world emergency response scenarios. He shared valuable lessons learned from past incidents, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and flexibility in incident management.

Participants actively engaged in discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, gaining hands-on experience in applying ICS principles to various emergency scenarios. The training culminated in a capstone exercise, allowing participants to demonstrate their understanding of ICS concepts and their ability to apply ICS principles in a simulated emergency response setting.

The Basic Incident Command System Training Course Level I proved to be a valuable learning experience for MDRRM Council members, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and respond to emergencies.
