LGU Awards Scholarship Grants to Top 1 SHS Students

LGU Manolo Fortich continues its constant support to the high performing students.

Municipal Mayor Rogelio R. Quiño offered certificate of scholarships to twenty-six Top 1 Senior High School students from both public and private schools in the municipality last August 23, 2022 at the Technical Skills and Development Center (TESDA), Barangay Tankulan. The said students shall enjoy the scholarship for four years in the school year 2022-2026 from the Local Government Unit. These scholarship grants serve as recognition for the students’ hard work and determination in their studies despite the challenges during the pandemic.

These brilliant students came from the following schools; Sankanan National High School, Alae National High School, Dalirig National High School, Manolo Fortich National High School, St. Jude Thaddeus Academy and Holy Cross National High School. Each of them shall receive 10,000 pesos from the LGU and an additional 3,000 pesos as a reward for their enthusiasm in their studies. Mayor Quiño also applauded the parents who worked hard to provide a better future for their children and the teachers for their active presence in teaching their students. Mayor Quiño hopes that these grants will help them achieve their dreams in life. “Before the scholars of the LGU were only appointed by the Kagawads of the barangays. When I became mayor, I erased the old system in choosing the scholars. It should pass the process in choosing the children of the indigent parents”, stated the mayor. In line with this, Mayor Quiño retold his experiences to the topnotcher students. He told them that he used to do different kinds of jobs such as being a shoeshine boy, farmer, mechanic and a house boy. He has gone through a lot of hurdles in life but because of his fortitude and industry, he realized that education is the answer to poverty.

On the other hand, Rizza Marie Albarece, one of the grantees from Manolo Fortich National High School, extended her immense gratefulness to the generosity of the mayor’s administration. “This motivate us to strive harder and aim higher, as the future of this generation we are looking forward to be able to give back too to our community.” A proud parent also is very thankful, in the person of Efren D. Biodor from Barangay Alae. His elder child graduated from college as an LGU scholar and now his other child is a grantee.  He said that, “It is a parent’s pride to be able to see his child graduate and have another child as scholar of Manolo Fortich.”

The program was also graced by Sangguniang Bayan member and Committee Chair on Education, Hon. Miguel D. Demata and the members and staff of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) spearheaded by PESO Manager, Roger O. Molina.
