Asenso sa Agrikultura!

As a municipality rich in agriculture, the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich intensifies its support to its local farmers. A new greenhouse opened at Purok 3, Barangay Dicklum, Manolo Fortich under the grant of Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office - 10 (DA RFO 10) to the Municipal Agricultural Office (MAO) during a Turnover Ceremony on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.

“Primarily, ang purpose sa greenhouse is that we will test different types of crops hydroponically, para kani na mga crops ma testingan. Ang atong farmers, kung unsa man galing ilang need kung mag-produce og hydroponically grown nga mga crops, ila na lang e follow ang atong protocol.”, says Municipal Agriculturist Gemma Cania during an interview.

Cania also elaborated how this can benefit students and future farmers in Manolo Fortich as well, “Even ang mga students nga mag OJT dinhi, naa gyud silay makita nga maka practice gyud diay sila sa ilang knowledge gikan sa colleges and makakita sila mismo sa research. Dili lang ni para sa atong mga farmers, but this is an educational facility para sa atong mga future farmers dinhi sa Manolo Fortich.”

In its plant testing, the 900,000 thousand pesos worth greenhouse with micro-sprinklers is currently growing lettuce crop with its variety such as the Romaine, Green Span, Black Rose, Invecta, Lollio rosa and Dabi. The turnover ceremony, graced by Regional Technical Director for Operations Carlota S. Madriaga of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 10, also catered the distribution of Agricultural Production Support equipment such as the Rice Farmer Financial Assistance ATM, Corn Seeds, Mulching Film, Vegetable and Fermentation Crates, Organic Fertilizer, Knapsack Sprayer, and Drums to the participating farmers.

RTD Madriaga, expresses her confidence in the sustainability of agriculture in Manolo Fortich, “Dinhi sa Manolo Fortich, confident gyud kaayo ko kay maayo man gyud ang pagpahigayon sa mga proyekto. Padayon ta sa pagpahigayon niini na atong dumdumon nga tanan namong gihimo dili para sa amo, kung dili para sa mga mag-uuma dinhi sa Northern Mindanao.”

In response, Municipal Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño also shares his vision for the farmers and hopes to produce more projects for agriculture, “Ang atong gilantaw kini atong farmers nga maayo ug sayon ang ilang pamaagi sa panahon kung sila mag-harvest og produkto. Mao gyud na ang atong tinguha, na matabangan ang atong farmers. Hopefully, madugangan pa ta og mga projects gikan sa DA with the director.”

Among the farmers who benefitted from the Agricultural Production Support is Brigido Daguyot of Barangay Dalirig. As a recipient of the Drums, he extends his gratitude, “Dako kaayo og ikatabang ang gibuhat sa atong gobyerno nga mao ning gitawag nga kabag-ohan nato. Adunay maayong pamaagi ug teknik sa pag-uma. Nagpasalamat kami sa tanan nga nanguna gikan sa LGU hangtod sa DA.”

The greenhouse is only the beginning of various and future agricultural projects in the municipality. The 6 hectares of land where the greenhouse is resting will soon witness the future establishment of the Center of Agriculture where it will house the new office of MAO and various learning centers and facilities for the farmers. Truly, a step towards enriching agriculture in Manolo Fortich.
