The Fire Prevention Month of March concludes with the Manolo Fortich Bureau of Fire Protection (MF BFP), in partnership with the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO), conducting various safety precautionary measures against fire and earthquakes for the employees of the LGU of Manolo Fortich at the New Government Center, Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich on Monday, March 25, 2024.
BFP first conducts its annual demonstration on the proper usage of Fire Extinguishers and the shutting down of wildfires caused by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) during the Bi-Monthly Flag Raising Ceremony at the Municipal Grounds. Several employees participated in the demonstration to set an example.
“Kinanglan gyud kaayo nato makabalo og gamit sa Fire Extinguisher or sa pagpalong incase mo kalayo ang LPG kay sa atong kanya-kanya nga mga panimalay, if ever mag leak ang LPG, it's simply and only being calm in turning it off ra jud diay,” says Manolo Fortich Municipal Fire Marshal SFO2 Rafael I Corona Jr when asked about the relevance of the demonstration. “Mao ra jud na sila majority sa mga rason ngano naay mga sunog,” he adds.
In coordination with LDRRMO, the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill was also performed and participated in by the employees of the LGU of Manolo Fortich, followed by a feedback activity and evaluation by the BFP to LDRRMO and representatives from different offices.
Corona Jr expressed his commendation for the employees' participation and emphasized the importance of properly practicing the drill during the feedback session, “Need gyud kaayo nato ma practice ang Earthquake Drill mao nang every quarter gyud siya para ma practice nato and ma muscle memory nato siya if ever naay mahitabo nga earthquake na mag duck, cover, and hold gyud ta.”
Regarding future plans, LDRRMO Operations and Warning In-Charge PTLCOL Ret. Col Rosseau M. Clerigo also mentioned that more progress would be observed by the next quarter in June 2024, ”Atong preparedness, response, and recovery sa disaster ato pa gyud ning ipa lambo with close coordination sa mga designated agencies along with a contingency plan nga mas i-improve pa.”
On the same afternoon, three teams from BFP and LDRRMO conducted a Fire Safety Inspection on all offices to check evacuation plans, emergency lights, and alarm systems. The security of electrical lights and the expiration dates of fire extinguishers were also examined.
Furthermore, the Fire Prevention Month theme is, “Sa Pag-iwas ng Sunog, Hindi ka nag-iisa,” which encourages men, women, and children to practice precautionary measures against fire and earthquake incidents in different households, offices, and every establishment. If education on the importance of these measures is instilled, minimal fire incidents will occur in the municipality, which is the goal of Manolo Fortich BFP.
