April was recognized as “The Month of the Planet Earth,” and April 22 was declared Earth Day with the theme: “Planet vs. Plastics.” In observance of Earth Day, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) organized a community cleanup initiative on April 23, 2024, along the Alae River in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
Volunteers from various organizations, including the Local Government Unit led by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), Barangay Volunteers, Rebisco, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Landbank, and the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), enthusiastically participated in the activity.
The team collected fourty five sacks of trash, highlighting the persistent issue of improper waste disposal in the community. Among the collected trash were tin cans and plastic/glass bottles, materials that can remain on the planet for thousands of years.
As the effects of environmental degradation become increasingly evident—warmer temperatures, thicker air, and the emergence of new illnesses—it is imperative for our community to work together to address these challenges and safeguard the planet for future generations.
