DAY 2 OF 2ND ENVIRONMENTAL SUMMIT WRAPS WITH BREAK-OUT SESSIONS AND MOA

Philippine Environment Month 2024

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) facilitated this year’s day 2 of the 2nd Environmental Summit with the goal of gathering Environmental Volunteers from the 22 barangays of Manolo Fortich to further educate them on the importance of the municipality’s natural resources on June 26, 2024, at the Municipal Gymnasium, Manolo Fortich.

This year’s Philippine Environment Month theme, “Our Environment, Our Earth,” stands as a reminder of the significant connection between the well-being of the environment and future generations to come. Thus, the efforts of local offices such as MENRO to start from the grassroots and prioritize the consistency of honing the barangay units on proper waste management through break-out sessions.

In her Kalikasan Message, Sangguniang Bayan Member and Committee Chairperson on Environment Coun. Rina E. Quiño urged how being educated about the environment can encourage advocating for it, “Mas maayo gyud nga atong ihugpong ang tanan nga mo advocate on environment. Para kini sa pagpalambo ug pagprotektar sa atong kinaiyahan. Dapat ma instill sa atong huna-huna nga mao ni ang atong duty ug responsibilidad sa atong community.”

The break-out sessions consisted of two topics: (1) Waste Characterization and Recording and (2) Forestry, Wildlife, Clean Water, Manolo Fortich Environmental Programs. An estimated 100 environmental volunteers, including Green Enforcers, Kitanglad Guard Volunteers, Bantay Kalasan, Barangay Kagawad Champs on Environment, and a few Barangay Chairmans, participated in the break-out sessions, which were divided into two groups.

On the same day, Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich as they committed to being a partner institution for Sagip Sapa, a research component which aims to explore ways and means of maintaining and conserving river basins surrounding Manolo Fortich, specifically the Tagoloan River Basin and Cagayan de Oro River Basin.

Hedcor Inc. also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) as a multi-partite monitoring team of the LGU Manolo Fortich on environmental protection and conservation, as well as additional funding for environmental activities with MENRO. At the same time, they also turned over six environmental signages to the municipality.

Municipal Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño led the signing of both the MOU and MOA and extended his gratitude to the partner institutions whose commitment helped the LGU in promoting its advocacy for the municipality, “Salamat kaayo sa Hedcor ug NBSC sa ilang pagcommit nga maghatag sila sa ilang contribution alang sa atong environmental protection and sa uban pang mga projects ug assistance na ilang gihatag sa lungsod na karon, makabenepisyo usab ang katawhan sa Manolo Fortich.”
