BARANGAY INFORMATION COORDINATORS RECEIVE TRAINING ON PROPER USE OF DIGITAL COMMUNICATION
Digital Communication and Social Media Management Training
The Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich, through the Municipal Information Office (MIO), conducted its first-ever training on Digital Communication and Social Media Management for appointed Barangay Information Coordinators. The training aimed to cultivate the proper use of communication within the barangay level of Manolo Fortich and took place at the Bamboo Pavilion in Barangay Damilag on Friday, August 23, 2024.
The one-day training focused on defining Digital Communication and highlighting its importance, along with the effective management of social media for Barangay Information Coordinators. Participants were encouraged to manage their barangay’s official Facebook page. Former ABS-CBN Reporter and Producer, now BUSECO Cooperative Communications and Social Marketing Office Chief, Conchita May Tanate-Verendia, served as the resource speaker.
Municipal Information Officer Joey T. Yecyec emphasized the importance of accessible communication within barangays to ensure that the services of the LGU are well known, “It’s high time nga sa karong panahon nga grabe na atong social media, ang mga tao is craving na for more information hilabina sa mga services nga needed sa atong mga residente, kinahanglan na sila makabalo. To empower that and to make that a realization, dapat ang atong barangay kay established pud that is why naa ta diri para i-capacitate mo and magiyaha mo namo to be an effective communicator.”
Furthermore, Verendia provided participants with practical examples on how to use social media effectively. She demonstrated common methods for taking pictures with smartphones, writing appropriate social media captions, scheduling posts, documenting current events, and more. Participants also learned how to create their barangay’s Facebook page, along with exploring other social media platforms.
As the productive training concluded, Barangay Lindaban appointed Barangay Information Coordinator Jenny Pearl A. Supieza expressed her gratitude, “Kabalo man gyud tang tanan na wala gyud tay hanaw especially ako. Ako ga post ko sa Facebook, igo lang mag announce nga naay ingana nga activity. So, wala gyud ingon bitaw nga proper nga training na akong na apilan. So, pasalamat gyud ko ani kay nakatuon sad ko unsay dapat i-post ug dili dapat i-post.”
Moreover, LGU Manolo Fortich Executive Secretary Atty. Ricci A. Jamila reminded everyone that while digital advancement is beneficial, it is crucial to be responsible users, “Our LGU has allotted this training today in order for us to know the rubrics of digital communication to help people rather than misuse it and harm others. In other words, we must use this technological advantage as a means of uplifting our people.”
