In support of the Centenarians Act of 2026, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Manolo Fortich, through the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), facilitated the awarding of a ₱100,000 cash gift to Luisa Molmisa Quito, the 6th centenarian of Manolo Fortich. The event took place at the BCC Homes, Barangay Damilag, Manolo Fortich, last Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
The Centenarians Act of 2026, also known as Republic Act 10868, was signed into law on June 23, 2016. It entitles all Filipinos who reach the age of 100—whether residing in the Philippines or abroad—to receive a centenarian gift worth ₱100,000, along with a certificate of felicitation from the current President of the Philippines through the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
OSCA Head Phoebe Cau explained in an interview that the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 10 (DSWD-10) spearheaded the distribution of the ₱100,000 cash gift, with OSCA facilitating the activity. She said, “Ika unom na nga higayon nga kita makahatag diri sa Manolo Fortich sa atong mga edaran og mga ni edad na og 100. So kini manguna jud ang DSWD nga Region 10, while the OSCA will be facilitating the activity ang paghatag sa 100,000 pesos.”
Personnel from DSWD-10, led by Team Leader Sarah Mae E. Baldon, personally visited the residence of Luisa Molmisa Quito, where she lives with her daughter, Lorina Quito Miras. They conducted the official turnover ceremony of the ₱100,000 cash gift. Luisa Molmisa Quito celebrated her 100th birthday on August 25, 2024, and is the proud mother of seven children.
When asked how she achieved such a long and healthy life, Luisa shared that her faith in God and a simple lifestyle were her secrets: “Nag-ampo lang ko sa Ginoo nga mutaas akong kinabuhi, nga kaluy-an ako ug makita pa nako akong daghang apo. Bisag unsa man lang man akong kaonon, wala man koy gipili.”
Luisa also expressed her gratitude to the LGU of Manolo Fortich, the DSWD, the Damilag Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU)—represented by Committee Chairperson on Senior Citizens Affairs and Barangay Kagawad Hon. Victor N. Amenabar—and Barangay Captain Hon. Allan E. Cahoy. Both officials, along with all concerned offices, made the turnover ceremony possible and also presented her with a certificate of recognition.
Under RA 10868, not only those who reach 100 years old but also individuals celebrating their 80th, 85th, 90th, and 95th birthdays are entitled to cash gifts through the Expanded Centenarian Act. Qualified residents of Manolo Fortich can avail themselves of these benefits by completing the necessary requirements, which include OSCA registration and ID, an accomplished application form, and a birth certificate.
