HEDCOR, BFP STRENGTHEN FIRE SAFETY IN BUKIDNON'S REMOTE AREAS

Acknowledging Fire Prevention Month of March 2025

In Bukidnon's remote barangays, fire emergencies pose a constant and dangerous threat—one that is magnified by difficult terrain, limited access to emergency services, and the lack of proper firefighting tools. For thousands of residents, a fire outbreak could mean devastating losses with no immediate help in sight.

Determined to change this reality, Hedcor, in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 10, is bringing lifesaving fire safety training, essential equipment, and emergency response innovations to communities that need them most.

Equipping communities to fight fire with knowledge and action

Recognizing that the first minutes of a fire emergency are critical, Hedcor, an AboitizPower renewable asset manager, and the Aboitiz Foundation have launched an intensive firefighting training program in Barangays Santiago and Maluko—areas where emergency services are difficult to access.

This initiative trains barangay police officers and local volunteers to become first responders, equipping them with the skills needed to control fires, protect lives, and minimize damage before professional firefighters arrive. The program directly benefits nearly 8,000 residents by improving response times and strengthening community resilience against fire-related disasters.

To ensure communities are ready to act when needed, Hedcor has also provided critical firefighting gear, including helmets, gloves, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers, giving volunteers the confidence and capability to respond effectively to emergencies.

Beyond response

Hedcor's efforts extend beyond fire response, proactively reducing risks before fires even start. Working hand-in-hand with local readers, Hedcor supports fire safety awareness campaigns, educating residents on prevention measures, evacuation procedures, and emergency preparedness.

To enhance disaster response coordination, Hedcore has also supported the BFP R10 Manolo Fortich Fire Station's Disaster Response Control Room, helping ensure that emergencies are managed faster and more efficiently. Furthering this effort, the launch of the Manolo Fortich Rescure Emegency App has strengthened emergency response capabilities, allowing responders to mobilize resources more quickly and effectively.

For its sustained efforts in fire safety and disaster resilience, Hedcor was honored by BFP Region 10 during the 51st Fire Service Recognition Day, a testament to the company's dedication to protecting lives, strengthening communities, and fostering a culture of preparedness.

Hedcor President and COO Rolando Pacquiao said, "Through initiatives like the firefighting training program and fire safety awareness campaigns, we aim to equip communities with the knowledge and resources they need to respond effectively to emergencies. We are proud to work with the BFP and Aboitiz Foundation to foster a culture of preparedness and resilience."

Hedcor's impact goes far beyond providing immediate assistance. It is actively shaping a safer, more disaster-ready future for Bukidnon's communities. Through continous collaboration and unwavering commitment, Hedcor is making fire safety not just a response, but a way of live for the community it serves.
