LGU MANOLO FORTICH CELEBRATES WORLD WILDLIFE DAY THROUGH IEC

MENRO and CENRO conduct an Information Education Campaign to Elementary Students

As a proactive step in celebrating World Wildlife Day, the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich, through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), partnered with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to conduct an Information Education Campaign (IEC) on wildlife protection and preservation on March 4, 2025. Students from Grades 5 and 6 of Mampayag Elementary School and Dicklum Elementary School participated in the event.

CENRO Environmental Specialist Roxane Elaine Galarpe discussed biodiversity—what it is and its importance to the planet. “Tanan nga hayop ug tanan tanom naay role sa atong kalibutan. Si mother nature maghatag sa ato og pagkaon ug limpyo nga tubig. Ang biodiversity pod is makatabang mag-regulate sa climate change, kay as we all know, init na kaayo ang kalibutan,” Galarpe told the students.

Moreover, CENRO Senior Ecosystem Management Specialist James Ian Pande tackled Republic Act 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, which provides for the conservation and protection of wildlife resources and their habitats. He also introduced C.A.R.E., which stands for Call adults for help, Avoid disturbing them, Respect their space, and Educate others—guidelines on how students can contribute to wildlife protection in their own little ways.

A total of 68 Grade 5 and 6 students from Mampayag Elementary School and 47 from Dicklum Elementary School attended the campaign. Cheska, a Grade 6 student from Mampayag, expressed her gratitude to the local government for its time and dedication in educating them about their roles as future stewards of the environment. “Thankful kaayo ko kay nakatuon mi [tungod] sa inyong pag-anhi diri, then salamat kaayo kay naa gyud mi natun-an ug wala nasayang inyong oras,” said Cheska.

Ma’am Salome Lolong, Officer-in-Charge of Dicklum Elementary School, also delivered a message of appreciation, emphasizing the impact of the IEC on shaping the young generation’s understanding of environmental conservation. “Dako kayo among pasalamat for this information drive nga inyong gihatag diri sa atong mga kabataan kay sa bisan pa sa kalinghod sa ilang panghuna-huna, naa nagyud silay nakuha nga mga sakto nga mga information og unsaon pag-protect sa atong mga wildlife,” said Lolong.

World Wildlife Day is celebrated internationally every 3rd of March to honor and recognize the unique roles and contributions of wildlife to both people and the planet.
