The Barangay Sanitary Inspector’s (BSI) Refresher Course 2025 was successfully conducted on March 19, 2025, at the Municipal Gymnasium Conference Room in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon. This event brought together 26 sanitary inspectors from the 22 barangays in the municipality to enhance their knowledge and skills in maintaining public health and sanitation.

According to Municipal Sanitary Inspector Bryan Degamo, the main objective of the seminar was to enhance the skills of the BSIs and equip them with better strategies for handling community health issues. "Prevention is better than cure; matud pa sa ingun ni Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño, dili na nato angay magtukod og daghan hospital para lang ma address ang mga issues nga ing-ana, kundi ang angay natung pagabuhaton, to prevent, dapat manghinlo sa atung palibot kay ang sakit makuha sa hugaw nga palibot.", stated Degamo.

The discussions covered crucial topics such as dengue prevention, the importance of sanitary toilets, and proper waste segregation. Through this refresher course, BSIs were provided with updated knowledge and practical solutionsto improve sanitation and public health in their respective barangays.

During the seminar, Degamo stressed the importance of continuous learning for BSIs. He highlighted that proper knowledge and skills in sanitation are essential in addressing community health concerns. He also encouraged the sanitary inspectors to actively enforce health regulations and educate residents on maintaining a clean and safe environment.

One of the participants, Joey Ann, a BSI from Barangay Alae, shared her experiences and challenges in fulfilling her role. “Kanang mag-survey mi, kanang uban household kay medyo irritable sila tapos kanang gukdon kag iro, tas naka-try pa jud kog gi gukod og buang ug apil pud ang mga basura dili ma tarung og segregate. Ang segregation jud sa kada household, kay sa amoang barangay og dili ma-segregate og tarung dili jud namo gakuhaon,” says Joey Ann. However, she appreciated the refresher course, stating that it provided helpful updates and strategies that had been forgotten, making it a valuable review.

Moving forward, Degamo encouraged the BSIs to apply what they learned and suggested future training programsto further enhance sanitation efforts. The refresher course reinforced their skills and knowledge in handling community health issues, serving as a reminder of their critical role in keeping their barangays clean and safe. With the lessons gained, they are now better equipped to promote proper sanitation and health practices in their respective communities.
