MANOLO FORTICH FARMERS RECEIVES AGRI-PRODUCTS FROM GOVERNMENT AGENCIES

Agriculture Support Services to Farmers

The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) led the ceremonial turnover of various agricultural products provided by the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office - 10 (DA RFO 10) and the Philippine Coconut Authority Regional Field Office (PCA RFO 10) to local farmers and Indigenous Peoples (IP) Communities of Manolo Fortich. The event took place at the Municipal Food Terminal, Manolo Fortich Central Station, Barangay Tankulan, on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Farmers and IP representatives from the barangays of Santiago, Guilang-guilang, Lindaban, and Sto. Niño were the primary recipients of 40 Dinurado Upland Rice Seedlings, along with Organic Insecticide and Fungicide, all turned over by DA RFO 10. Additionally, various farmers received 40 Vegetable Crates. Meanwhile, PCA RFO 10 turned over 2,520 Coconut Seedlings to 36 farmers across Manolo Fortich.

MAO Senior Agriculturist Gemma G. Cania emphasized that the turnover activity aims to assist aspiring agricultural practitioners and farmers, “Gi-collaborate nato ni sa mga national agencies. We were given Vegetable Crates for urban gardening. Nia pud diri karon atong gidistribute nga Upland Rice Seedlings para sa atong IP Communities. Gi-conduct pud dayun nato ang distribution sa Coconut Seedlings. Para ni matagaan og assistance ang mga farmers nga new-planters or katong gusto mag expand sa ilang coconut areas.”

Cania also shared that through the tireless support and provision by DA RFO 10 of various agri-products and materials, MAO continuously identifies farmers in Manolo Fortich who qualify as beneficiaries through a thorough evaluation conducted by the Barangay Agricultural Technician Managing Agricultural Network (BATMAN) in each barangay.

Concordia L. Quijano, a 61-year-old coconut farmer from Barangay San Miguel, is one of the 36 recipients who received coconut seedlings. According to Quijano, the assistance has enhanced her livelihood through coconut farming, “Mapasalamaton kaayo ko tungod sa programa nila nga naa jud silay ikatabang sa mga mag-uuma nga makatabang gyud sa among panginabuhi kay naa gyud gakadugang na income gikan sa among pagpananom pinaagi sa libre nga seedlings.”

The turnover initiative aligns with the 3rd Agenda of Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño’s 10-Point Agenda, which focuses on “Agriculture Support Services to Farmers.” It aims to sustain agriculture in Manolo Fortich by providing strong support to farmers and first-time agricultural practitioners.
