DA ATI-10 TURNS OVER ICT EQUIPMENT TO BARANGAY LINGION AND STO. NIÑO

Improving FITS Kiosks in Manolo Fortich

The Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich continues to hone collaborations to strengthen agricultural development as the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Training Institute Region 10 (DA ATI 10) turns over various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Equipment to Barangay Lingion and Sto. Niño, Manolo Fortich last September 25, 2024.

The 2 barangays received ICT Equipment comprised of a laptop, printer, portable speaker with microphone, portable pocket Wi-Fi, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Rack, and a collapsible demo Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) Kiosk from the DA ATI 10 as Information Officer Honeylou Bastasa, along with Committee Chairperson Coun. Raquel A. Bayacag, and Municipal Agriculturist Gemma G. Cania led the turnover.

Bastasa also explains that such initiative in assisting FITS centers around Region 10 is under DA ATI’s Techno-Gabay Program, “Si FITS Center, sila ang usa sa mga components sa Techno-Gabay Program. Ang aim sa FITS is to make agri and fishery information available to farmers at the municipal level. Gwapo nga mas ma pa extend gyud ang reach sa atong mga FITS Center ang ilang services didto sa barangay level, nga resilient ang atong approach.”

The ICT Equipment will be made available and accessible to farmers of the barangays whenever they need research and information with their agricultural projects. The ICT Equipment will be under the supervision of its respective Barangay Agricultural Technician Managing Agricultural Network (BATMAN) by the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).

Bastasa also relayed that the selection of the 2 barangays was made through their careful assessment and field validation from the endorsement of MAO, “Gi validate namo sila, gi adtoan, ug gi-assess, kung qualified or naka met ba sa standards ang barangay which is ang availability sa area for the FITS ICT Equipment and ang accessibility ani sa mga farmers nga dali ra nila maagtoan.

MAO’s endorsement came out of the barangay’s readiness to provide a space for a FITS Kiosk in their barangay hall. In total, 5 barangays in Manolo Fortich namely Mantibugao, Alae, Santiago, Lingion, and Sto. Niño have claimed to be ready to accommodate a FITS Kiosk and approved by the DA ATI 10. According to MAO, ICT Equipment turnover to Mantibugao, Alae, and Santiago will also follow.

Furthermore, Cania also encourages the rest of the barangays to make use of such opportunity from the DA ATI 10 and pave way for their own space to accommodate a FITS Kiosk, “Ato gyud gi aghat ang uban na mga barangays nga maghatag og space for s FITS Kiosk. Dako siya’g tabang sa atong mga mag-uums. Pwede nila magamit, ma access, ug makatabang kini sa ilang mga basahon nga naa silay libreng access sa teknolohiya.”
