Del Monte Foundation Incorporated (DMFI) led the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing with the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich to formalize its 120-Day Supplemental Feeding Program during the celebration of the 51st Nutrition Month Culmination held on July 29, 2025, at the Municipal Gymnasium in Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich.
The program is part of DMFI’s initiatives in line with its upcoming 100th anniversary celebration. As a foundation based in Manolo Fortich, its primary beneficiaries are children from its surrounding barangays—Agusan Canyon, Damilag, Lunocan, and San Miguel. A total of 100 nutritionally at-risk children will benefit from the program: 15 each from Agusan Canyon and Damilag, 10 each from Lunocan and San Miguel, and 50 from Bugo, Cagayan de Oro City, where DMFI’s food processing and cannery facilities are located.
DMFI Health Program Supervisor In-Charge Lovah Jane A. Escobedo, who served as the focal person for the program and represented DMFI during the MOA signing, shared that this initiative is Del Monte’s way of giving back to the community, “Our vision is to have happy and healthy families in sustainable communities. Para ma-achieve ni, is to help combat malnutrition. We would like to give back to the community since ni lahutay man si Del Monte.”
Present during the MOA signing were Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño, Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Rikkie Mae B. Lucero, and the barangay captains of the beneficiary communities. Punong Barangay Allan E. Cahoy of Damilag expressed how the program will aid their local fight against malnutrition, “Nalipay gyud mi nga isa ang Damilag sa benepisyaryo sa 120 days nga supplemental feeding kay dako gyud ni og tabang sa amoa hilabina sa mga kaso sa malnutrition ug stunting sa barangay.”
On the same day, the 51st Nutrition Month Culmination also featured an awarding ceremony recognizing winners from various contests, including Nutri-Famealy, Nutri-Reels, Food and Nutrition Security Mobile, Photography Contest, Nutri-Newnique Recipe, Special Awards, Circle of Excellence, BNS Service Awards, Outstanding BNS and BNC, Green Banner Seal of Compliance, and OPT Plus 2025 Top Performing Barangays.
Councilor Joy L. Cordovez, Committee Chairperson on Health, Sanitation, and Nutrition, also delivered a message emphasizing the importance of sustaining the advocacy for health and nutrition, “Unta nga dili lang sa July ang atong pag-celebrate sa Nutrition Month, taga bulan tagaan nato og awareness atong health. Magpadayon kita sa atong adbokasiya ug ato gyud panghingusgan na walay Manoleño nga mabiyaan sa ka wad-on sa kahimsug sa panglawas.”
This year’s 51st Nutrition Month theme, “Food at Nutrition Security maging priority! Sapat na pagkain karapatan natin,” underscores the importance of ensuring food and nutrition security in combating malnutrition, stunting, and other health-related risks.
