In the third day of its Livelihood and Skills Training series, the 2nd Municipal Livelihood Summit successfully wraps the 2-day training of Management and Technology on Free Range Chicken Production that seeks to cultivate the skills of local chicken production practitioners of Manolo Fortich on November 23, 2023, at the New Government Center Conference Room, Barangay Tankulan, Manolo Fortich.
The skills training started on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Municipal Gymnasium of Barangay Tankulan and was participated by over 30 participants from the different barangays of Manolo Fortich who are either local chicken production practitioners or first time to the field. This was graced by Sangguniang Bayan Member and Committee Chairperson on Agriculture Coun. Raquel A. Bayacag.
In her welcoming remarks, Coun. Bayacag highlights how agriculture is a field that welcomes anyone who is interested. “Ang agrikultura, dili lang ni para sa mga agriculturists gyud. Pero, para ni sa atong tanan kay dili limited sa mga agriculturists ang pag atiman sa manok. Naa pa gyud daghan rason para i-improve gyud nato ang atong knowledge. So, take this opportunity to learn and prosper more sa atong agrikultura diri sa Manolo Fortich.”
Jeriel Canonigo, a farming practitioner from Malaybalay City served as the resource speaker of the skills training. Topics in his discussions include Ethnoveterinary Medicine, Recordkeeping, Common Diseases and Treatments, Feeds and Feeding, Breads and Breeding, and Housing. Feed Express of Zamboanga City also served as a partner corporation and gave a feed formulation demonstration towards the participants as well as freebies such as calendars, notebooks, and ballpens.
Estrella Fabrigas, 53 years old from Barangay Maluko is among the participants of the skills training program. In her experience, she has already been a chicken producer in her own household since their family owns 20 chickens in their backyard. The opportunity to attend the training is another addition to her initial knowledge in free range chicken production.
Furthermore, Fabrigas shares the insights she has gained and extends her gratitude to the Local Government Unit of Manolo Fortich and to Municipal Mayor Rogelio N. Quiño, “Nakatuon jud ko especially sa pamaagi sa pagbahog ug unsaon pagtimpla sa i-bahog. So, akong dakong pasalamat sa atong LGU ug kay mayor nga naa diay silay ingani nga programa kay hinaot nalang gyud katong parehas sa amo, maka income and madugangan among kahibalo.”
The skills training on Management and Technology on Free Range Chicken Production proved to be an opportunity that relays the message that agriculture is for everybody. At the same time, it has the potential to alleviate the livelihood of Manoleños if proper information dissemination is given to interested individuals.
